The formulas
Annual pay = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year
Monthly pay = Annual pay ÷ 12 Hourly rate = Annual pay ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)
A full-time US job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours a year. So $25 an hour equals $52,000 a year, about $4,333 a month or $1,000 a week — before tax.

Freelancers: set your rate from a target income
Freelancers don’t get paid for every hour they work. Admin, finding clients, holidays and sick days all reduce billable time. To find the hourly rate you need:
- Decide your target annual income and add business costs (software, equipment, internet, taxes).
- Estimate realistic billable hours — often 20–30 a week — and weeks worked (for example 46).
- Enter the annual total with those hours here; the hourly figure is the minimum rate to charge.
Gross vs. net pay
All figures are gross (before tax). Your take-home pay depends on income tax, social security contributions and other deductions in your country. Bi-weekly pay (every two weeks) gives 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year have three paydays — handy to know when budgeting.
Frequently asked questions

Full-time at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. Subtract unpaid holidays to get your actual paid hours.
Is monthly pay just weekly pay × 4?
No. There are about 4.33 weeks in a month on average, so monthly pay is annual pay ÷ 12.
Are these figures before or after tax?
Before tax (gross). Take-home pay depends on your country’s tax rules.
