How to merge PDF files
- Add your PDFs. Drop them onto the box or click to choose. You can add more files at any time.
- Arrange the order. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to move a file up or down, or “Sort A–Z” to order them by name. The first file in the list becomes the first pages of the merged PDF.
- Name the file and press Merge PDF. Your combined document downloads straight away.
What gets kept when you merge
Pages are copied exactly as they are: text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their original resolution, and fonts, vector graphics and page sizes are preserved. Each page is copied rather than re-printed, so there is no loss of quality and no watermark is added.
A few things are not carried over from the individual files: bookmarks (the outline panel), and some interactive form fields and digital signatures. Digital signatures are tied to the exact bytes of the original file, so any change — including merging — makes them invalid. If a document must stay signed, send it separately.
Common reasons to combine PDFs
- Job and visa applications that ask for one PDF containing your CV, certificates and ID.
- Invoices and receipts for an expense claim or accountant.
- Scanned pages saved as separate files by a phone or scanner.
- Reports assembled from chapters written by different people.
- Study notes and lecture slides for one subject in a single file.
Tips for a better merged PDF
- Need to add photos? Turn JPG or PNG images into a PDF first with JPG to PDF, then merge them with your other documents.
- Need only some pages? Use Split PDF to extract the pages you want, then merge.
- Too big to email? Large scanned PDFs are mostly images. Scanning at 150–200 DPI instead of 600 DPI usually gives a perfectly readable document at a fraction of the size.
- Password-protected files need to be unlocked (with the password) before they can be merged.
Why this PDF merger is private
Most online PDF tools upload your documents to a server, process them there, and keep them for a period of time. This tool uses pdf-lib, an open-source JavaScript library, to build the merged file directly in your browser. Your contracts, bank statements and ID documents are never sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?
There is no fixed limit on the number of files or pages. Very large files (several hundred MB in total) depend on your device’s memory; a desktop browser handles them best.
Does merging reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied without re-compressing, so text, images and graphics look exactly as they did in the originals.
Will a watermark be added?
No. The merged PDF contains only your pages, with no watermark or branding.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Open the file with its password in a PDF viewer and save or print it as a new PDF, then merge it.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The merge happens inside your browser and the files never leave your device.
Can I merge PDFs on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and other modern browsers on Android and iPhone.
