How to split a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF by dropping it onto the box or clicking to browse. The number of pages is shown straight away.
  2. Pick a split mode:
    • Extract pages into one PDF — keep only the pages you list, in one new file.
    • Split by ranges — each range you list becomes its own PDF. “1-3, 4-10” produces two files.
    • Every page separately — one PDF per page, downloaded together as a ZIP.
    • Every N pages — cut a long document into equal chunks, for example every 2 pages.
  3. Press Split PDF. A single result downloads as a PDF; several results download as a ZIP.

Writing page ranges

You typePages selected
3Page 3 only
1-5Pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
1, 4, 9Pages 1, 4 and 9
2-4, 10-12Pages 2–4 and 10–12
8-Page 8 to the last page
-3Pages 1 to 3

Pages are counted from the first page of the file, regardless of any page numbers printed on the pages themselves.

When splitting a PDF helps

  • Send only what is needed. Share one chapter, one invoice or one signed page instead of an entire document.
  • Get under an upload limit. Portals that cap files at 2 MB or 5 MB often reject long scans; splitting into parts solves it.
  • Remove unwanted pages. Extract everything except blank or confidential pages — for example, “1-4, 6-” skips page 5.
  • Separate scanned batches. When many documents were scanned into one file, split them back into individual documents.
  • Reorder pages. In “extract” mode, pages are added in the order you type them, so “3, 1, 2” moves page 3 to the front.

Quality and privacy

Pages are copied, not re-printed, so text stays sharp and searchable and images keep their full resolution. The splitting is done locally in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library — your document is never uploaded, which makes the tool safe for contracts, statements and personal records. To put pages from several files back together, use Merge PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract one page from a PDF?

Choose “Extract pages into one PDF”, type the page number (for example 5) and press Split PDF.

Can I remove a page from a PDF?

Yes. Extract all the other pages. For example, to remove page 5 from a 20-page PDF, enter “1-4, 6-20” or “1-4, 6-”.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied exactly, so text and images are unchanged.

Why do I get a ZIP file?

When a split produces more than one PDF, they are bundled in a ZIP so you can download them in one go. Most phones and computers open ZIP files automatically.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Splitting happens in your browser and the file stays on your device.
