How to use the Amazon FBA calculator
- Enter your selling price, your product cost per unit, and what it costs to get one unit into Amazon’s warehouse (freight, import duty, prep and labels).
- Choose the product’s category to set the referral fee, or type your own percentage.
- Enter the FBA fulfillment fee for your product. The most accurate figure comes from Amazon’s Revenue Calculator or the product’s fee preview in Seller Central, because it depends on the exact size tier and shipping weight.
- Add monthly storage per unit and your average advertising cost per unit sold.
- Read your net profit, margin, ROI and break-even price, plus a full line-by-line breakdown.
Amazon FBA fees in 2026
| Fee | How it works |
|---|---|
| Referral fee | Amazon’s commission, a percentage of the total sales price. Most categories are 15%; consumer electronics 8%; personal computers 6%. Apparel and jewelry have price-based tiers. Referral percentages were held steady for 2026. |
| FBA fulfillment fee | Per-unit fee for picking, packing and shipping, based on size tier, shipping weight and price band. Amazon announced an average increase of about $0.08 per unit from 15 January 2026. |
| Fuel & logistics surcharge | A 3.5% surcharge on FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada, effective 17 April 2026. |
| Monthly storage | Charged per cubic foot; higher from October to December. Aged inventory and low-inventory-level fees can also apply. |
| Selling plan | Professional: $39.99 per month. Individual: $0.99 per item sold. |
Amazon updates its fees regularly, and categories have exceptions and minimum fees. Treat the defaults here as a starting point and check the current fee schedule in Seller Central for your product.
The formulas
Net profit = Price − Referral fee − FBA fee − Fuel surcharge − Storage − Product cost − Inbound cost − PPC − Other
Margin = Net profit ÷ Price × 100 ROI = Net profit ÷ (Product cost + Inbound cost) × 100
The break-even price is the lowest selling price at which you make zero profit after all fees — useful for setting a floor for promotions and deals.
What is a good Amazon margin?
Many experienced private-label sellers aim for a net margin of 20–30% after all fees and advertising, and an ROI of 100% or more on landed product cost. A common rule of thumb when sourcing is that the product cost should be no more than about 25–30% of the selling price, because Amazon fees and advertising typically take 35–45% of the price.
Ways to improve FBA profit
- Optimise packaging. Dropping into a smaller size tier or under a weight threshold can cut the FBA fee by a dollar or more per unit. Our Dimensional Weight Calculator helps check this.
- Watch price bands. FBA fees differ for items priced under $10 and between $10 and $50.
- Control advertising. Track your break-even ACoS with our ACoS Calculator.
- Know your landed cost. Include freight, duties and prep — see the Landed Cost Calculator.
- Keep inventory healthy. Avoid aged-inventory surcharges and low-inventory-level fees by forecasting restocks.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Amazon take per sale?
For most categories, a 15% referral fee plus the FBA fulfillment fee (often $3–$6 for standard-size items) and, from April 2026, a 3.5% surcharge on that fulfillment fee. Storage, advertising and your selling plan are extra.
Where do I find my exact FBA fee?
Use Amazon’s Revenue Calculator or the fee preview for your ASIN in Seller Central. The fee depends on the product’s measured size tier, shipping weight and price.
Is the referral fee charged on shipping?
Referral fees are charged on the total sales price, which includes any shipping or gift-wrap charges the customer pays. For FBA items, shipping is usually free to the customer.
Does this include the $39.99 monthly subscription?
Not per unit. Divide $39.99 by the units you sell per month and add it to “Other per unit” for a complete picture.
