What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin used as placeholder text in printing and design. It is based on a passage from De finibus bonorum et malorum (“On the ends of good and evil”), written by the Roman philosopher Cicero in 45 BC. Typesetters have used versions of it since at least the 1500s, and it became widespread in the digital age through desktop-publishing software.
The words look like real language — they have a natural mix of short and long words and normal punctuation — but they don’t mean anything to most readers. That is the point: people look at the layout, typography and spacing instead of reading the content.
When to use placeholder text

When not to use it
Placeholder text should never go live. It is also worth testing designs with real or realistic content as early as possible. Real headlines are often longer than the placeholder, and real product names may not fit the space you designed.
