How to use the age calculator

  1. Enter the date of birth.
  2. Leave “Age on this date” as today, or change it to find out how old someone was — or will be — on any other date, such as an exam cut-off date or a job application deadline.
  3. Read the exact age in years, months and days, along with totals in months, weeks, days and hours, the day of the week the person was born, and how long until the next birthday.

How exact age is calculated

Age is counted the way people naturally count birthdays. First the calculator counts the complete years since the date of birth. It then counts the complete months since the last birthday, and finally the remaining days.

Because months have different lengths, the day count borrows from the length of the previous month when needed. For example, from 31 January to 1 March is 1 month and 1 day in a non-leap year — the same answer you would get by counting on a calendar.

Leap-year birthdays

People born on 29 February only have a calendar birthday every four years. In common years, this calculator treats 28 February as the birthday for counting, which is the convention used for most legal purposes in many countries (some use 1 March instead — check local rules if it matters).

Where you need an exact age

  • Job applications and government exams. Many recruitment notices — including Bangladesh BCS and other public service exams, and civil service roles in many countries — set a maximum age “as on” a specific date. Enter that cut-off date in the second box to check eligibility precisely.
  • School admission. Schools often require a child to have reached a certain age by a set date.
  • Visa, insurance and pension forms that ask for age in years and months.
  • Medical and child-development checks, where age in months or weeks is used.
  • Fun facts — such as the day you turn 10,000 days old.

Western age vs. other age systems

This calculator uses the international (“Western”) system, where a newborn is 0 and gains a year on each birthday. Some traditional East Asian systems count a baby as one year old at birth. South Korea officially moved to the international system for legal and administrative purposes in June 2023.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Enter your date of birth. The calculator counts complete years, then complete months since your last birthday, then the remaining days.

Can I calculate age on a specific date?

Yes. Change the “Age on this date” field to any past or future date — useful for exam and job age limits that are set “as on” a certain date.

How are leap years handled?

Leap years are included automatically in the total-days figure. If you were born on 29 February, 28 February is treated as your birthday in non-leap years.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. The calculation is done in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.

Why does my age in days look different from another site?

Some sites include the end date as an extra day or count from a different time zone. This tool counts the number of full days between the two dates.
