How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Add your photos. Drop .HEIC or .HEIF files onto the box, or click to choose them. Select many at once — there is no limit.
- Choose JPG or PNG. JPG is best for photos and keeps files small; PNG is lossless but much larger.
- Press Convert. Each photo is decoded and saved as JPG in your browser.
- Download the photos one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It is based on the HEVC video codec and stores photos at roughly half the size of a JPG with similar quality. It can also hold extras such as Live Photo frames and depth information.
The problem is compatibility. Windows needs an extra codec to open HEIC, many websites and upload forms reject it, and older photo editors, printers and Android phones often cannot read it at all. JPG, on the other hand, opens everywhere.
Why convert in your browser?
Photos are personal. Many converters upload your pictures to a server and keep them for hours. This converter decodes HEIC locally using a WebAssembly build of the libheif library, so your photos stay on your device. It also means there is no file size limit and no waiting in an upload queue.
How to stop your iPhone taking HEIC photos
If you always need JPG, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG (they will take more storage). Alternatively, keep HEIC and set Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic so the iPhone converts photos when you copy them to a computer.
Quality and file size
At 90% quality the JPG is visually identical to the original HEIC. Expect the JPG to be about 1.5–2× larger, because JPG is a less efficient format. If you need smaller files for email or upload forms, run the JPGs through the image compressor or image resizer.
Multi-image HEIC files
Some HEIC files (for example burst shots) contain several images. The converter extracts all of them and numbers the output files.
Frequently asked questions
Is the HEIC to JPG converter free?
Yes — free, unlimited and without watermarks.
Are my iPhone photos uploaded?
No. HEIC files are converted inside your browser and never leave your device.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
JPG re-compresses the image once. At 90% quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy.
Is photo metadata (date, location) kept?
No. The converted JPG does not include the original EXIF data such as GPS location, which is often a privacy benefit when sharing photos.
Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses about twice as efficiently as JPG, so the same photo needs more bytes as a JPG.
