How to convert PNG to JPG
- Drop your PNG files on the box or click to choose them.
- Set the JPG quality. 90% looks virtually identical to the original; 75–85% gives smaller files.
- Choose a background colour. JPG does not support transparency, so any transparent areas in your PNG are filled with this colour — white by default.
- Press Process images, then download the JPGs individually or as a ZIP.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
- Much smaller files. A photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times bigger than the same photo as JPG. Converting saves storage and makes pages and messages load faster.
- Upload requirements. Many job portals, exam and visa application forms only accept JPG or JPEG photos and signatures.
- Compatibility. JPG is supported by practically every device, app, printer and website.
What happens to transparency?
PNG images can have transparent or semi-transparent pixels — common with logos, icons and cut-out product photos. The JPG format has no way to store transparency, so those pixels must be filled with a solid colour. Choose white for documents and most websites, or match the colour of the page where the image will appear. If you need to keep the transparency, keep the PNG or convert to WebP using the Image Compressor.
Choosing the right quality
| Quality | Result |
|---|---|
| 95–100% | Near-lossless; large files. Use for printing or archiving. |
| 85–90% | Visually identical for most images. A good default. |
| 70–80% | Noticeably smaller; ideal for web and social media. |
| Below 60% | Visible blockiness around edges and text. |
Tip: screenshots containing lots of text or sharp lines often look better — and can even be smaller — as PNG. JPG works best for photographs.
Your files stay private
Conversion happens entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so the tool is safe for scanned documents, signatures and personal photos.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?
JPG is lossy, so a little detail is discarded, but at 85–90% quality the difference is very hard to see. Text and sharp graphics may show slight artefacts at low quality.
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).
Can I convert PNG to JPEG? Is it the same thing?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format; the shorter .jpg extension dates from older versions of Windows that allowed only three-letter extensions.
Is there a file limit?
No fixed limit. You can convert many images at once and download them as a ZIP.
