How to use the reverse text generator
Type or paste your text. Four versions appear instantly — click Copy next to the one you want and paste it anywhere: Facebook, Instagram bios, WhatsApp, X (Twitter), Discord, games or documents.
The four styles
| Style | Example for “Hello world” | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Backwards text | dlrow olleH | Every character in reverse order |
| Reverse word order | world Hello | Words reversed; each word still readable |
| Upside down | plɹoʍ ollǝH | Reversed and each letter swapped for an upside-down look-alike |
| Mirror text | blɿow ollɘH | Reversed with mirrored look-alike letters where they exist |
How upside-down text works
There is no “upside-down font” — you cannot rotate text in a plain-text message. Instead, the generator replaces each letter with a different Unicode character that looks like the letter turned over: “a” becomes “ɐ”, “e” becomes “ǝ”, “h” becomes “ɥ”, and so on. Because these are ordinary Unicode characters (mostly from the International Phonetic Alphabet), they can be pasted almost anywhere that accepts text.
Not every letter has a perfect upside-down twin, and support for some characters depends on the fonts on the reader’s device, so a few letters may look slightly different on some phones.
Fun and practical uses
- Social media: eye-catching bios, captions and comments.
- Puzzles and games: hide answers in quizzes, treasure hunts and escape-room clues.
- Checking palindromes: reverse a word or phrase to see whether it reads the same both ways — like “racecar” or “Was it a car or a cat I saw”.
- Mirror writing: text that reads correctly in a mirror, as Leonardo da Vinci famously wrote in his notebooks.
- Programming practice: string reversal is a classic coding exercise; compare your output with the tool.
Accessibility note
Screen readers cannot read upside-down or mirrored characters as normal words — they may read out symbol names or skip them. Avoid using these styles for important information such as names, links or instructions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write text upside down?
Type your text in the box and copy the “Upside down” version. It uses Unicode look-alike characters, so it works in most apps.
Does reversed text work on Instagram and Facebook?
Yes. The output is plain Unicode text that can be pasted into posts, comments and bios.
Does it reverse emoji correctly?
Yes. Emoji and accented letters are reversed as whole characters, so they are not broken apart.
Is my text stored?
No. Everything is generated in your browser.
