US vs UK (imperial) measures
The United States and the United Kingdom use units with the same names but different sizes. A US gallon is 3.785 liters while a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 liters — about 20% bigger. The same is true for pints and quarts. Fluid ounces go the other way: a US fl oz (29.57 mL) is slightly larger than a UK fl oz (28.41 mL). Always check which system a recipe or product label uses.

Note: these are volume measures. For dry ingredients such as flour or sugar, cups convert to different gram weights depending on the ingredient — 1 cup of flour is about 120–125 g, while 1 cup of sugar is about 200 g.
