How to use text to speech
- Type or paste your text.
- Choose a voice. Voices are grouped by language; the list depends on your device and browser.
- Adjust speed and pitch, then press Play. Use Pause and Stop at any time.
Where the voices come from
This tool uses the Web Speech API built into modern browsers. The voices are provided by your operating system and browser — for example Microsoft voices on Windows and Edge, Google voices in Chrome, and Apple voices on macOS, iPhone and iPad. That means:
- Different devices offer different voices. Microsoft Edge in particular includes many natural-sounding “online” voices.
- Bangla voices are available on some systems — for example in Edge and Chrome on many Windows and Android devices — but not on all. If you don’t see a Bangla (bn) voice, try Microsoft Edge or Chrome on Android.
- Because speech is generated by the browser, the audio cannot be downloaded as a file from this page. To save it, use an audio recorder that captures your computer’s sound.
Who uses text to speech?
- Proofreading: hearing your writing read aloud reveals missing words and awkward sentences you skim past when reading.
- Language learners practising pronunciation and listening.
- People with dyslexia or visual impairments, or anyone with tired eyes.
- Multitasking: listen to an article while cooking or commuting.
- Content creators testing scripts before recording a voice-over.
Tips
- Use punctuation — commas and full stops create natural pauses.
- Write numbers and abbreviations the way they should be spoken if a voice reads them oddly.
- Speeds between 1.0× and 1.3× are comfortable for most listeners; experienced listeners often prefer 1.5× or faster.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download the speech as MP3?
Not from this page. Browser speech is played directly by your device and is not available as a file. You can record it with screen- or audio-recording software.
Is there a Bangla voice?
It depends on your device. Microsoft Edge and Chrome on Windows and Android often include Bangla voices. Check the voice list for “bn”.
Is there a text length limit?
No fixed limit. Long texts are split into sentences automatically for smoother playback.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Some browsers use cloud voices (marked “Online” or provided by Google) that send text to the provider to synthesise speech. Local voices work offline.
