How to record your voice online

  1. Press Start recording. Your browser asks for permission to use the microphone — choose “Allow”.
  2. Speak. The level meter shows your voice is being picked up. Use Pause to take a break without starting a new file.
  3. Press Stop, listen back with the player, and download as MP3 (small, plays everywhere) or WAV (uncompressed, best for editing).

Uses for an online voice recorder

  • Voice notes, interviews and lectures
  • Voice-overs for videos and presentations
  • Practising speeches, language pronunciation or singing
  • Recording podcast segments or audio messages to send by email

Tips for better recordings

  • Get close to the microphone — about a hand’s width from a headset or phone mic gives clear sound with less room echo.
  • Choose a quiet, soft room. Curtains, carpets and furniture absorb echo; bare rooms sound hollow.
  • Turn off fans and notifications before you start.
  • Keep the level steady: aim for the meter to move well above the bottom without hitting the top.
  • Use a headset or USB microphone for noticeably better quality than a laptop’s built-in mic.

Privacy

The recording is captured and encoded entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server, and the audio disappears when you close the page unless you download it. Microphone access works only on secure (https) pages; your browser shows an indicator while the microphone is in use.

Editing your recording

To remove silence or mistakes at the start or end, open the recording in our Audio Cutter. To change the format or bitrate of an existing file, use the Audio Converter.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a time limit?

No fixed limit. Very long recordings (over an hour) use a lot of memory; on phones, record in shorter parts.

Why can’t the recorder access my microphone?

Check that you clicked “Allow”, that no other app is using the microphone, and that the site has permission in your browser’s settings (padlock icon in the address bar).

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other modern mobile browsers.

Are my recordings uploaded?

No. Recording and MP3 encoding happen in your browser.
