How to convert time zones
- Choose a date and time and the time zone it belongs to — your own time zone is selected automatically.
- The table shows the same moment in each listed city, with its current UTC offset. Add any of 400+ IANA time zones from the list, or remove ones you don’t need.
- Use the meeting planner to find hours that fall within the working day in every location.
Daylight saving time
Many countries move their clocks forward in spring and back in autumn, so the difference between two cities changes during the year. For example, Dhaka (UTC+6, no daylight saving) is 11 hours ahead of New York in winter (EST, UTC−5) but only 10 hours ahead in summer (EDT, UTC−4). Getting this wrong is a common cause of missed meetings, which is why a converter that uses the official time zone database is safer than mental maths. This tool uses your browser’s built-in IANA time zone data, which includes all current and historical rules.
Common time zones
| Location | Standard offset | Daylight saving? |
|---|---|---|
| Bangladesh (Dhaka) | UTC+6 | No |
| India (Kolkata) | UTC+5:30 | No |
| UAE (Dubai) | UTC+4 | No |
| Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) | UTC+3 | No |
| United Kingdom (London) | UTC+0 (GMT) | Yes — UTC+1 (BST) in summer |
| US Eastern (New York) | UTC−5 (EST) | Yes — UTC−4 (EDT) in summer |
| US Pacific (Los Angeles) | UTC−8 (PST) | Yes — UTC−7 (PDT) in summer |
| Australia (Sydney) | UTC+10 (AEST) | Yes — UTC+11 (AEDT) from October to April |
Abbreviations can be confusing: “BST” means British Summer Time in the UK but is also used for Bangladesh Standard Time. Use city names or UTC offsets to avoid misunderstandings.
Tips for international meetings
- Always write the time zone in invitations, e.g. “10:00 New York time (20:00 Dhaka)”.
- Use calendar invites — calendar apps convert times for each attendee automatically.
- Rotate inconvenient time slots fairly between regions for recurring meetings.
- Remember that the weekend differs: Friday is a non-working day in Bangladesh and many Gulf countries, while Saturday–Sunday is the weekend in the US and Europe.
