How to convert WebP to JPG
- Drop your .webp files on the box, or click to choose them. You can add many at once.
- Pick a JPG quality — 90% looks identical to the original for almost every image.
- Choose a background colour for transparent areas (JPG cannot be transparent).
- Press Process images and download the JPGs one by one or as a ZIP.
What is WebP?
WebP is an image format created by Google in 2010. It produces files roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality and also supports transparency and animation. Because smaller images make pages load faster, many websites, online shops and CDNs now deliver images as WebP automatically — which is why “Save image as…” in your browser often gives you a .webp file.
Why convert WebP to JPG?
All modern browsers can display WebP, but plenty of other software still cannot handle it reliably:
- Upload forms on government, university and job sites usually accept only JPG/JPEG or PNG.
- Older photo editors and Office versions may refuse to open WebP files.
- Printing services and photo kiosks typically expect JPG.
- Some messaging and social apps treat WebP as stickers instead of photos.
JPG is the most widely supported image format in the world, so converting removes all of these problems.
Will I lose quality?
Both WebP (in its common lossy mode) and JPG are compressed formats, so converting re-encodes the image once. At 85–95% quality the difference is invisible in normal use. The JPG file will usually be somewhat larger than the WebP — that is the trade-off for compatibility. If file size matters, lower the quality slider or run the result through our Image Compressor.
Animated WebP
Animated WebP images are converted using their first frame, because JPG cannot store animation.
Frequently asked questions
Why do images I save from websites come out as WebP?
Many websites serve WebP because it is smaller and faster. Your browser saves the file in the format it received.
Is WebP better than JPG?
For websites, usually yes — WebP files are smaller at the same quality. For compatibility with older software, printers and upload forms, JPG is safer.
Can I convert many WebP files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and download them together as a ZIP.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
